TransCanada will build safe pipeline

I would like to respond in disagreement to the July 16 letter written by Laurie Lohrer. She states that there is a high potential for drinking water contamination and refers to pipelines that were constructed numerous years ago. Today’s technology has greatly changed and improved the infrastructures and monitoring of pipelines. Today’s pipelines are bored deeper underground (25 to 40 feet under the rivers) and stronger materials are used with state-of-the-art monitoring equipment.

Providing reliable energy sources for North America is a priority for TransCanada who is constructing the pipeline. Last year, they spent over $800 million on integrity and preventive maintenance. TransCanada worked with local and public agencies to complete over 100 emergency drills and exercises in 2016. I am confident the pipeline will be one of the safest in the USA.

The Keystone Pipeline will generate millions of tax dollars that benefit schools, counties and communities. Recently, Billings had Garth Brooks concerts, and the local businesses benefited greatly from the influx of people for a three-day show. Compare that to what the businesses...
